Summary

The music industry has felt the full force of digital disruption for over a decade now, with recorded music now worth less than when Napster was launched back in 1999. A lot has happened since, with file hosting overtaking file sharing, live overtaking recorded and a shift of focus on licensing businesses like Spotify as opposed to selling directly to the consumer. Television has often been an armchair critic of these developments; yet with its most valued intellectual property of Sky premiership football now freely available on Bit Torrent, now is the time to learn the lessons before its too late.
