Summary

Deborah Turness has been Editor of ITV News since 2004 and is the first female editor of network news in the UK and the youngest editor of ITV News. In 2008 she received the "Women in Film and Television" News and Factual Award. Her programmes have won an Emmy for coverage of the Chinese earthquake and a BAFTA for the same story.

 

Previously, she has presided over a series of scoops and world exclusives including video of the arrest of the London bombers, the leaked report on the shooting of innocent Brazilian Jean-Charles De Menezes and exposing the extent of Charles Kennedy's drink problem for which ITV News won Scoop Of The Year at the 2007 RTS Awards. Under her leadership ITV News has made history when they became the first news organisation to anchor whole programmes from Antarctica in 2007. 

 

Prior to joining ITV News, Turness was Deputy Editor of ITV News and Deputy Editor of Five News. Turness began her career at ITN as a freelance producer in the Paris Bureau.

 

 

Summary

Worldview is a media scheme that provides funding and support to media producers who want to make programmes in and about the developing world. The scheme is based with the CBA (Commonwealth Broadcasting Association) and receives funding support from DFID.  The scheme provides support for international delegates to take part in Fast Track and attend the TV Festival. Sally-Ann will outline the nature of the scheme, the previous commissions it has been involved with, and the funding support available to media producers via the scheme.

 

 

Summary

In 2007 Andy Harries was awarded the BAFTA for outstanding contribution to the industry and in the same year established Left Bank Pictures. Left Bank has produced two series of BAFTA award-winning Wallander, Father & Son, Married, Single, Other, two series of E4's School Of Comedy and feature film The Damned United.

 

Before starting Left Bank Pictures, Andy was a Controller for Granada Productions. During this period Andy brought talent including Caroline Aherne, Lee Evans and Steve Coogan to British television screens for the first time, and went on to produce the The Mrs Merton Show and The Royle Family - both BAFTA award-winners. He was responsible for a number of Emmy, Golden Globe, Bafta and RTS award winning programming including Cold Feet, The Forsyte Saga, Dr Zhivago, The Street and The Deal. Andy also received an Academy Award nomination as producer of The Queen.

 

 

Summary

Lucy Lumsden became Head of Comedy for Sky 1HD, Sky 1, 2 & 3 in November 2009 after working at the BBC for 11 years. Since 2005, Lucy was the BBC's first Controller of Comedy Commissioning and had responsibility for commissioning all scripted comedy from both in-house and the independent sector. Lucy has developed, commissioned and worked with the very best in British comedy to produce an impressive array of hits across BBC One (including the award-winning Outnumbered and Gavin and Stacey), BBC Two (Miranda and The Catherine Tate Show), BBC Three (How Not to Live Your Life) and BBC Four (Screenwipe).

 

Lucy began her career in television in 1992 working at the Comic Strip for BBC Two. She then worked across a number of comedies, drama serials and documentaries for the BBC and Channel Four until 1998 when she joined the BBC working in the Comedy Department of the Independents Commissioning Group. Lucy is currently developing a new raft of originated comedies for Sky 1HD which will start to air from Christmas 2010.

Summary

Tim Hincks is CEO of Endemol UK.  Endemol UK is one of the largest independent production companies in Britain and annually produces over 5,000 hours of output. It incorporates a number of production brands including Remarkable Television, Initial, and Zeppotron.

 

Credits include hit game shows Total Wipeout and Deal Or No Deal; popular factual entertainment series Supersize Vs. Superskinny, Gok's Fashion Fix; reality blockbuster Big Brother and comedy series 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Charlie Brooker's Screen Wipe.

 

Endemol UK has also recently acquired Tiger Aspect, Darlow Smithson and Tigress and so also produces Charlie & Lola, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl and The Catherine Tate Show. The company is also behind a growing portfolio of innovative multiplatform entertainment including Bebo's groundbreaking online reality show, Gap Year and O2's first ever made-for-mobile drama, Cell.

David Strachan is joint MD of Tern, based in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Belfast.  Tern has made productions for BBC One, Two, and Four, ITV, Channel 4, UKTV, Sky and BBC Scotland, BBC NI and RTE. David is a Trustee of the Indie Training Fund, and the longest-serving member of Pact Council, where he has been heavily involved in the lobby to move more production out of London.
